Westview Orchards announced today that Olivia Sloan, of Washington Township, is the winner of their 2007 Corn Maze Design Contest. She was awarded one-hundred dollars and a Westview Orchards Fall Family Fun Pass for her winning corn-y idea.
"We're just thrilled that the winning corn maze design and theme, was submitted by a Romeo student, who just happens to be the daughter of one our staff," Westview co-owner Katrina Schumacher stated excitedly. "She's a familiar face around here," she added. "We see Olivia with her family for cherry-picking in the summer and apple-picking in the fall." "Fall is her favorite season when she can visit Westview's 'Black Holes' and Indoor Maze, take a wagon ride through the orchards, and of course, try to navigate through Westview's Corn Maze," her mother, Tammie, added. "Someday I'd like to work at the Black Hole and Indoor Maze!!" Olivia shared, giggling.
2006 marked the ninth year that Westview Orchards has offered a themed corn maze for fall weekend family fun. Named "Explore Westview", it featured a pirate ship on a stormy sea as its design. Past Westview corn maze themes have included MSU's 150th birthday with Sparty standing on top of a birthday cake, Detroit's 300th birthday greeting, a patriotic 'Salute to Our Troops' design, and a celebration for the Pistons as the 2004 National Champs. "Families look forward to a new corn maze design every year," stated Katrina Schumacher.
This year's corn maze design and theme will be kept a secret until its official Grand Opening on Labor Day Weekend. Motioning that her lips are sealed, Katrina confided "All I can say about the design is that it celebrates something special to all Michiganders."
